Industrial Continuous Fluid Bed Drying Systems for Granular & Particulate Materials

Aksh Engineering is a trusted manufacturer and exporter of high-efficiency Continuous Fluid Bed Dryers (CFBD) based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Designed for high-volume, continuous processing, our continuous fluid bed drying systems deliver uniform moisture reduction, superior thermal efficiency, and gentle product handling across pharmaceutical, chemical, food processing, mineral, and fertilizer industries.

Whether you need a standalone continuous dryer, an integrated drying and cooling system, or custom agglomeration and coating units, Aksh Engineering delivers engineered-to-order solutions tailored to your moisture targets and throughput requirements.

Working Principle of Continuous Fluid Bed Dryer

A Continuous Fluid Bed Dryer operates on the core principle of fluidization. Hot, conditioned air or inert gas passes upward through a specially engineered perforated distributor plate at controlled velocities. This lifts and suspends wet granular particles in a dynamic, fluid-like state.

  1. Continuous Feeding: Wet feed enters continuously via controlled screw feeders, rotary valves, or vibrating feeders.

  2. Fluidized Drying Zone: High surface-area contact between the drying medium and fluidized particles leads to rapid moisture evaporation. Evaporative cooling keeps product temperatures significantly lower than inlet air temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive compounds.

  3. Integrated Cooling Zone (Optional): Hot, dried granules flow into a secondary compartment where ambient or chilled air rapidly stabilizes the product to prevent caking and prepare it for packaging.

  4. Fines Recovery & Exhaust System: High-efficiency cyclones and bag filter systems capture particulate fines, ensuring maximum product yield and compliance with environmental emission norms (CPCB/GPCB).

Process Workflow: Step-by-Step System Design

1.Material Feeding & Conditioning:Uniform input flow to prevent bed choking.

Wet material (granules, crystals, or wet cakes) is fed at a continuous rate using variable-speed feeding systems calibrated for your specific bulk density and moisture content.

2.Fluidization & Thermal Transfer:High heat/mass transfer rates.

Conditioned drying air passes through the perforated plate, suspending the material for uniform residence time without dead zones or localized overheating.

3.In-Line Product Cooling:Optional integrated two-stage zone.

The dried solids pass over an adjustable weir into the cooling compartment where controlled airflow reduces product temperature for immediate bagging or conveyance.

4.Exhaust Air Filtration & Yield Recovery:Environmental compliance & zero yield loss.

Drying exhaust gas passes through heavy-duty cyclone separators and pulse-jet bag filters to recover fines before clean air is vented out.

Key Advantages of Aksh Engineering Fluid Bed Dryers

  • High Energy & Thermal Efficiency: Direct gas-to-particle heat transfer lowers specific energy consumption per kilogram of water evaporated.

  • Gentle Particle Handling: Low mechanical shear minimizes particle attrition, degradation, and breakage of fragile granules.

  • Uniform Final Moisture Content: Controlled residence time guarantees consistent moisture levels across large-scale continuous runs.

  • Multi-Functional Capabilities: Can be configured for continuous drying, cooling, agglomeration, and top-spray coating in a single unit.

  • Hygienic CIP/SIP Design: Smooth internal surface finish (up to 0.4 µm Ra) with optional Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems for food and pharmaceutical standards.

Industry Applications

  • Pharmaceuticals: Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), wet-granulated compounds, crystalline powders.

  • Food & Dairy: Granulated sugar, salt, coffee granules, instant food mixes, starch, processed grains.

  • Chemicals & Agrochemicals: Polymers, resins, pigments, inorganic salts, catalysts, pesticides.

  • Fertilizers: Urea, NPK, DAP granules requiring anti-caking moisture reduction.

  • Minerals & Detergents: Specialty sands, detergent granules, synthetic powders.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Batch Fluid Bed Dryer processes fixed loads in cycles, requiring loading, drying, cooling, and discharging steps for each batch. A Continuous Fluid Bed Dryer operates uninterrupted with a constant feed and discharge stream, making it significantly more energy-efficient and scalable for high-throughput manufacturing plants.

Yes. Due to latent heat of vaporization, evaporative cooling keeps the product temperature well below the inlet hot air temperature during the drying phase, making it safe for heat-sensitive food, pharmaceutical, and chemical products.

Residence time is controlled by adjusting the length and width of the fluid bed chamber, setting internal weir heights, altering bed depth, and modifying material feed rates.
